Open Mic Moncton is now an Open Jam

Open mic in Moncton at the Iceberg pub has stepped it up!  Now I have an electronic drum kit every week... It is tons of fun.

Here I am playing around with the kit... I'm definitely not a drummer but I love the chance to practice.

A few other jammers showed up as well... :)

Come on out on Wednesday nights!   Jam starts at 10pm.

I have an acoustic guitar and an electronic drum kit.  If you want to hop on the drums, you are totally welcome to do so.

NOTE: If you are a bass player, you can either plug directly to the PA or bring your own bass amp.  If you play electric, you can bring your own amp, but it's more of an acoustic format so you may have to tone it down a bit...

You've found it.  I have stepped up my game at open jam night on Wednesdays and Thursdays.  I now have a drum kit!

Moncton/Riverview Open Jam

I put together a little demo of what happens at the Open Jam in Riverview on Thursday nights.  People brought drums, bass, guitars... and we had a good old fashioned jam.

It's totally random every week.  Sometimes we have a full setup and sometimes you can play on your own.

I also run an open mic or open jam in Moncton on wednesdays.  Just come on down around 10pm, bring your favorite instrument and let's jam!

Cheers,
Tim

New Open Jam in Riverview/Moncton at the Albert County Pub

More big news for the Moncton Music scene!  Another new Open Jam has just popped up in Riverview.  This one is at the Albert County Pub.  This one starts a little earlier that most, starts at 9pm and we go til 1am.  That way if you have to work in the morning you can still get out and catch a few songs or play your own.

The point is I'm not new to Open Mics/Open Jam and I think I've been able to draw from the different styles of other open mic hosts and put together a fun supportive experience.

I also cater to singers who would love the experience of singing into a mic in front of a crowd but just need a guitar player. I have a book full of lyrics (that I bring every week) with a extremely wide and diverse collection of songs to sing that I can play and sing backup. Of course, if you really want to sing something specific that I don't already know... Just let me know the song and chances are I can play a "reasonable faximile". ;-)

So whether you sing or play, you definitely should come out and play a song or two... Or just listen in and have a few cold ones.

Open Mic Moncton Venue Change?

Are you a bar owner looking to attract some new business?

Well, my time with WizeGuyz has come to an end.  I am looking for a new venue.  Preferably something that attracts a 30 something clientele.  I have been hosting open mic for 6 years now and I know how to take over an existing one as well as build it from scratch.

Let me know if you know someone looking and we can chat about strategy.

Cheers,
Tim

Open Mic at WizeGuyz in Moncton

If you are looking for a place to play some music have a few drinks in a low stress environment, then you've found the right place. You can play anything you wish, cover or original and the crowd is super supportive.

Here's an excerpt of a recent Open Mic at WizeGuyz.

Also, if you are a singer, come on by as well.  I have a couple binders of popular songs that you can sing and I will play along to!

Cheers,
Tim

Open Mic in Moncton Still rocking...

I thought I'd post an update of what's going on with me.  I've been in Moncton for about 8 months now and I'm loving it.  The sun is coming out and I'm ready for an awesome summer.  I am still hosting open mic every second Thursday at WizeGuyz and I love it.  We regularly get musicians out and they are all very talented.  Sometimes we even get a drum kit.

I'm looking to start a band this summer and do a bunch more gigs so if you live in Moncton and know someone in the music scene... hook a brother up.  :D

I thought I'd share one of my recent YouTube uploads.  I get requests for Wagon Wheel all the time so I finally decided to learn it.  Now I'm hooked.  Love this song...  It is so much fun to sing. :D

Enjoy!

Open Mic in Moncton

It has been a while since I've updated this blog, and for good reason.  I've made a huge move to Moncton, New Brunswick to be closer to my family.  I've been here for a few months now and I'm settling in nicely.  I have already landed an open mic here every second thursday at a bar called "Wize Guyz".  It has a great stage and is located downtown Moncton.

If you'd like to follow along, a great way to follow me is through Facebook.

More open mic fun!

I am so excited about how the Open Mic at the Georgetown pub is growing. Every week it gets bigger and better. With an excellent mix of regulars and brand new performers, every week is different. The best part is that the crowd is extremely friendly and supportive so you will always meet a ton of new friends.

Here I am loving what I do;

The list is growing every week so make sure that you get there nice and early to be sure you get on. Depending on the number of performers you will have between 3-5 songs. However, if you bring a crowd with you, I've been known to give an encore song. :)

See you Wednesday at Open Mic at the Georgetown with Tim Melanson.

You may be wondering what is new at the Georgetown Open Mic with Tim Melanson.

Well... The students are back and the musicians keep coming. We have so many new people coming out every week and it doesn't seem like it will slow down.

Here's a little view from the stage while regulars Jessika and Gary rock the crowd with some Bon Jovi.

The other new development is DRUMS!

Georgetown's very own, Silas, has decided to bring his kit whenever he can. This is so exciting! We have so many incredible musicians every week and since I've always got at least a Djembe with me, this will just take it to a new level.

Come on out and show your stuff!

Summer Fun

I haven't posted in a little while, and I thought it was about time. At the start of the summer I had foolishly considered suspending the open mic... I'm so glad that I decided to keep it going. It has been going quite well through the summer and every few weeks, we get a huge crowd.

It's funny how time flies, I've been hosting this open mic for close to 9 months now, and I'm still amazed at the new and regular performers that are walking through the door. One that I'd like to bring up is a sitar player that came out a couple weeks ago.

Imagine my surprise when this guy lays out his blanket and starts playing beatles songs on his sitar! It was awesome.

At Open Mic with Tim Melanson, everyone is welcome and encouraged to take their 15 minutes of fame!

Let the Good Times Roll

It's been a while since I've posted another note on here, so I thought I'd add a quick update.

Open Mic at the Georgetown is still going strong! We are attracting so many awesome musicians and every week we get to hear from a new singer or two. I'm so excited that everyone is reacting so well to the Open Mic Karaoke concept.

Here we have one of the regulars, Zoe rocking out with me to LaBamba! Too much fun.

If you are looking to get your rock star experience but you don't know a guitarist to come out to an open stage with, just come on out! I have a book full of songs for you to choose from. Also, chances are, if you print out the guitar chords and bring them with you, I will probably be able to play it for you.

See you at the Georgetown Pub! Every Wednesday Night!

Open Mic on Wednesday's at the Georgetown going well... Plus new gigs coming up.

This update is a little overdue since there are a few things that have been piling up that I need to tell you about.

First of all... Thanks to all of you who have been coming out for open mic every Wednesday. It is soooo much fun and I am amazed at the talent that is coming out. Not only does everyone play very well, but the song selection is awesome! I love the old classics!

A few new gigs to tell you about.

I've got a show coming up this Thursday December 17th at Bassline Station. You can click on the link to go to the facebook event that I set up. It's going to be a great show. I'm pretty sure that I'll be able to convince Jessika Racine to come out and sing a few songs with me. Those of you who have been fortunate enough to hear her perform know that this is going to be a fantastic night!

I'll quickly mention a couple other shows that are coming up... Bassline Station January 15th. This time it will be a Friday and I'm looking forward to getting a good crowd out for the party.

I'm also very excited to head out to Cornwall in February. It's actually Feb 26th and this one will be fantastic. I'll be bringing my good friend Levi Hart. This guy is absolutely incredible! He's got a record deal and everything. ;)

That's all for now... I'll keep you posted in the near future!

The good times continue!

This is so much fun!

I am in my second month running the open stage at the Georgetown Pub on Wednesday nights and I am having a blast. The last month has been incredible. The bar is busy every week and the list is full. There are plenty of artists showing off original songs as well as their favorite covers. Here is a little taste of last week's Open Mic. People are always welcome to come up and sing along with me, and here are a few regulars showing their stuff to Aretha Franklin's RESPECT!

If you are new to the open mic world I'll give you a few tips.

1. Prepare at least 1 cover song. You can be creative and make it your own, but it is much easier to win an audience if you catch their attention with something they know.
2. Bring your own guitar. I have my guitar there, but I will be watching you like a hawk and if you hurt it, I will not be happy.
3. If you make a mistake, ignore it! Chances are no one noticed!

I hope to see you out on Wednesday!
Tim

Ottawa Open Mic : What to expect with Tim Melanson...

Ottawa open mic (or open stage) at what used to be Rasputin's, was my first exposure to the Ottawa music scene. I remember going up on stage for the first time... It was exhilarating and exciting. The two musicians that were with me were first timers as well. They were both crapping themselves out of nervousness, but I remember being fairly calm. I've always loved the spotlight so I just felt natural on stage... plus I had INCREDIBLE players with me, so I knew that we'd be fine... Ok... Sorry for the rant ;)

The point is I'm not new to open mics and I think I've been able to draw from the different styles of other open mic hosts and put together a fun supportive experience.

The stage is a good size... you can definitely fit a 4 piece up there. Plus, the sound system is fantastic with a separate monitor so you can hear yourself! If you've never been to an open stage, you will soon know how important this is!

Back in the game: Open Mic at Georgetown

After a bit of a break, I'm back into music.

I've got a few things lined up.

First and foremost. I have landed another Open Mic Hosting gig. Every Wednesday night I will be at the Georgetown pub. I've taken the summer off from hosting (I used to host the one at the Royal Oak... The dirty Oak) and now I'm all refreshed and ready to go.

The open mic has already been going for quite some time, and I suspect that it will continue to draw the regulars. I also am excited to bring in the people who had such a fun time jamming and singing with me at the Oak.

Can't wait to see you all!

Please join my Facebook Group to keep up on the news, view pictures and communicate with other Ottawa Musicians.
